A Global Lens on T1D Screening: Local Actions, Global Impact!

We were proud to see our esteemed partner Flemming Pociot, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen chair the impactful symposium, which took place at the joint 2025 ESPE & ESE Congress in Copenhagen.

Joined by the internationally recognized speakers Thomas Danne and Michael Haller, the symposium explored the clinical and societal benefits of early detection in presymptomatic type 1 diabetes (T1D), offering key insights from ongoing screening initiatives around the world.

Fantastic to see DiaUnion highlighted as 1 of those 15 programs worldwide – in the talk by Thomas Danne about the power of early detection in T1D.

The panel also engaged in an enriching dialogue on who to screen and how to support families afterwards to ensure robust psychosocial support and disease preparedness. It was stressed that a multimodal communication, using simple and consistent language, is essential.

Key Take-Home Message: Early detection of T1D has multiple benefits!

  • Individuals and their families get the chance to be prepared for the disease and develop glycemic management skills.
  • Better management of T1D when it breaks out, including fewer cases of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and associated hospitalizations.
  • It is possible to identify participants for clinical trials with the first new treatments that can postpone the development of T1D.

Thank you to all who participated in this important conversation – Together, we’re shaping the future to better prevent and treat T1D!
