Breakthrough T1D encourages USPSTF to recommend screening

The official application was submitted to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) to recommend screening for type 1 diabetes (T1D) as a routine preventive service.

At DiaUnion, we applaud this step towards making early T1D detection part of standard healthcare – a goal we share and actively pursue in Denmark and Sweden through our regional efforts, as well as on a European level through our participation in EDENT1FI.

Like Breakthrough T1D, we promote autoantibody screening for presymptomatic T1D – the very approach now proposed for national adoption in the U.S. This is not just a medical milestone – it is a paradigm shift in how we prepare families for a life with T1D, while also reducing long-term health burdens.

We are also working to build support for public T1D screening programs, anchored in strong clinical data and patient-centered implementation.

DiaUnion looks forward to continue this dialogue during a roundtable discussion with key partners and stakeholders at Folkemødet 2025. Co-hosted by Diabetesforeningen, Type1 – think tank for type 1 diabetes, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, Sanofi and Medicon Valley Alliance, the session will build on the important conversations sparked at last year’s Folkemøde – the political festival on the island of Bornholm.
