At DiaUnion, we are excited to see that a number of concrete initiatives focusing on early detection are now being introduced as part of the Danish Government and Danish Regions’ new Strategy for Personalised Medicine 2025–2027.
For children and families living with type 1 diabetes, early detection can provide a safer path into life with the disease, with fewer complications – leading to better long-term outcomes and improved quality of life, as well as savings for society.
At DiaUnion, we are currently working to establish early detection programmes, and in Denmark, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen is leading the way by screening close relatives of individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
At the same time, we are also as part of the Alliance for Early Detection of T1D* working to highlight the potential of early detection towards a clear goal: Every family affected by type 1 diabetes should be offered early detection to ensure the best and safest possible journey with this chronic condition.
The new Danish strategy is certainly a strong backing to continue this important work!
