On 25 June 2026 Finn Stensbjerg Kristensen represented DiaUnion at Almedalsveckan in Sweden, joining a panel discussion on early detection of type 1 diabetes (T1D).
There was consensus across the panel that early detection creates value here and now. It also opens the possibility to delay disease progression – marking a true paradigm shift in how we approach T1D.
The discussion centred on a key question: how do we move from best practice research to clinical practice?
Knowledge on early detection of T1D has advanced rapidly, opening new opportunities in healthcare. The focus is now on translating these insights into real-world solutions – integrating learnings from research and pilot initiatives into everyday clinical care, and identifying the structures needed to implement early detection at scale.

The time has come to take the next step, building on the experiences from research and pilot initiatives such as DiaUnion.
We are therefore working to bring together key stakeholders across Sweden – including patient organisations, researchers and healthcare specialists, as well as life science and industry partners – to help establish early detection as part of the public healthcare offering.
