On November 10th, DiaUnion was in a session about Preventive Health at the Medicon Valley Alliance Annual Summit, which explored regional flagships projects in the Øresund region that help shape a healthier future, and set a benchmark for sustainable cross-border collaboration.
Markus Lundgren from Lund University presented how DiaUnion has developed over the past 5 years, and he shared key facts that reinforce the urgent need for earlier detection of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D):
- 107,700 people are living with T1D in Denmark and Sweden
- 24/7 monitoring and adjustments for life – places a heavy burden on the patient.
- 70% are not reaching treatment goals, leading to serious complications and excess mortality.
The main goal of DiaUnion is to support the development and implementation of early detection programs for T1D in both Denmark and Sweden – so we can move from reactive care to proactive prevention.
Thank you to Medicon Valley Alliance for hosting a great summit which tuned in on areas where the EU Competitiveness Compass points to this region.
