On 2 September 2026 DiaUnion was featured in Folkhälsan, a supplement in Svenska Dagbladet, highlighting how cross-border collaboration between Sweden and Denmark is advancing early detection of type 1 diabetes.
Since 2020, DiaUnion has brought together partners from Region Skåne and the Capital Region of Denmark and the article highlights our efforts to identify individuals at risk of developing type 1 diabetes (T1D) before symptoms appear. The aim is to enable earlier diagnosis, reduce the risk of life-threatening diabetic ketoacidosis at onset, and create a foundation for future preventive interventions.
Earlier in the summer, Finn Stensbjerg Kristensen brought this discussion to Almedalsveckan, Sweden’s leading forum for public policy and societal dialogue. His message was clear: early detection of type 1 diabetes should not remain a research initiative. The long-term goal is to translate evidence into sustainable healthcare programmes that can benefit children, families, and society across the Øresund region and beyond.
We are pleased to contribute with knowledge related to public health in the context of the regional and national election in Sweden on 13 September. Early detection of T1D has the potential to improve outcomes for individuals and families while supporting more sustainable healthcare systems.
